STEPS TO STARTING A COMMUNITY YOUTH TEAM

  1. Have a dedicated coach for the team.  See Coaching Requirements

  2. Book Gym / Hall time at least 2 times a week (preferably 3).

  3. Promote the team to the appropriate age.  (2021 - youth born 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006)

  4. Start a fundraising plan.

  5. Communicate with VBNU Program Director for practice plans and coaching advice.

  6. Start to practice and have FUN!

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising is key for any program to travel and compete in tournaments.   Some key fundraising points:

  • Fund-raise throughout the year, not only months or weeks before a tournament.  Last minute fundraising can be stressful.

  • Have athletes part of the fundraising.  This will help the athletes become responsible for their own activities.

  • Research what people in your community like and try and provide prizes/winnings that make people excited to help.

  • Don't get discouraged if people say 'NO'!  Many groups fund-raise a year and people are not able to support everything.
