The goal of the High Performance program is to provide our athletes an advanced level of training from some of the most elite coaches in Canada, and to give them an opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the Arctic and across Canada. This program gives Nunavut athletes the opportunity to represent their territory while building lifelong memories and friendships.
Volleyball Nunavut is building on the momentum from the 2014/2015 season. We will continue to develop athletes to meet Sport Nunavut's Major Games pathway, and to follow the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model that Volleyball Canada has implemented into its development of athletes.
Volleyball Nunavut has strategized an eight-year plan that focuses on the high performance goal of attending the 2021 Canada Games. To achieve this, there will be a need to enhance and grow the Grassroots Program, identify and train more coaches, help establish a pool of officials from Nunavut, and intensify the administrative components.
The High Performance program has made great strides in training athletes and coaches over the past year. By developing an annual training plan, organizing a high level competition schedule, and by working to recruit the best athletes born 1997 and later, we believe Team Nunavut will be in a great position to compete for medals again at the 2016 AWG.
